try everything

My father has been quite involved in my life since I was born. He would pick me up from kindergarten every day, take me to work and meetings, and just generally be around.

As a result of that paternal proximity, I have learnt a lot from him. One of those lessons, I remember clearer than others. It is also the oldest one I remember. It was to try everything.

It was probably something he created to make a child less fussy about new things, but it's something that stuck around. As a result, I've rarely been afraid of trying new things, which has put me in both, terrible and great situations.

One of those moments was today, and it was amazing. My friend and I were walking back home from Dumbo and we crossed the fluffiest puppy you can imagine. My friend was infatuated with that dog and really wanted to know what breed said puppy was. I told him to go up to the owner and ask but my friend felt shy.

So, I dragged my friend towards the dog and asked the owner what breed her puppy was. He was the friendliest 11-month-old old English sheepdog. An adorably large and cuddly pre-teen pup.

It's a week later, but using one of those parental lessons is my way of celebrating father's day.

So for what it's worth, happy father's day.
